ロサンゼルスの連邦地裁を後にする水原一平被告（カメラ・村山みち通信員）
罪状認否はたった約５分で終了。
すでに司法取引に応じて罪を認めているが、この日は治安判事の下で行われ、法定刑の上限が禁錮１年以上の「重罪」について、治安判事には有罪答弁を取り扱う権限がないため、水原被告は有罪答弁を避けて、形式上の無罪を主張。
法廷の中でも「ノット・ギルティー（Ｎｏｔ　Ｇｕｉｌｙ）」と口にした。
形式上の罪状認否終了後は、連邦地裁前に集まった日米メディアの前に姿を見せて囲まれた水原被告だったが、問いかけに応じることなく無言を貫いて車に乗り込んでいった。
